If you want to Go Bush, this is the Safari for you

The 'Breakaway' is the ultimate 5 day 4WD Central Australia adventure tour. As would be expected, we'll tour Uluru (tour Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Watarrka (Kings Canyon), Palm Valley and the West MacDonnell Ranges. More importantly, we'll also get to truly experience the outback in an authentic way by really going 'wayoutback'; bush camping at remote campsites, driving a bush track through an old outback cattle station affording sensational views of the West MacDonnell Ranges and, visiting the Oak Valley Aboriginal Community.

Indigenous Experiences Not to be Missed

The Oak Valley Aboriginal Community is an inspirational Aboriginal owned and operated tour business and community. The community boasts an olive and grape plantation, Aboriginal rock carvings and paintings and an ancient fossil field, all set in remote pristine desert country. You can learn about ancient myths and stories of their land, bush tucker, spear and boomerang throwing.

This year we are introducing two new opportunities to experience and learn directly from the indigenous land owners of Central Australia. While at Uluru you can go on the Aboriginal Guided Kuniya Walk+ where you will learn a great deal from Anangu about their mythological stories tied to Uluru and the intimate relationship they have with it.

After our walk at Watarrka we visit Lilla Aboriginal Community for lunch, the traditional home of the Luritja people. After lunch you will be invited to join Sadie Williams on a one hour guided Willy Wagtail walk+ where you’ll get to hear stories of Lilla, view a sacred women’s area, hear about bush tucker and get a demonstration into the use of various artifacts.

+ Cost additional to Wayoutback tour.

A Legacy to the Largest Landowner in the World

On our way from Oak Valley we travel through Owen Springs Reserve which was the first cattle station in this area. It was previously owned by Sydney Kidman who was, until his passing, the largest landowner in the world when not including governments or monarchy. We 4-wheel drive through Owen Springs, steadily climbing to a plateau which then opens out to the most breathtaking vista of the country below and West MacDonnell Ranges in the distance.

The Benefit of some of the Best Guides in the Business

Our experienced tour guides have all the required bush skills to keep you safe and comfortable. They are among the best in Central Australia because of their enthusiasm and ability to bring people together to have the best time. This is backed up with extensive local knowledge of land, the local Aboriginal people (Anangu) and European history.

Note: Due to the adventurous nature of our safaris, unpredictable weather / road conditions and long travel times, Wayoutback strongly recommends travellers take out Travel Insurance including Cancellation Cover.

The Aboriginal people of the Western Desert region of Central Australia suffer rates of kidney failure up to 30 times the National average. When treated in urban centres, usually followed by their extended families, the prognosis for them and their family is grim. Being uprooted from their homelands, which they are profoundly connected to, kills the spirit.
A community based dialysis service has been set up out in their homelands so patients in need of treatment can do so in the place they were born with their family there to support them.
